10 GOOD REASONS TO HAVE A PERSONAL TRAINER
A PERSONAL TRAINER CAN:
1. MOTIVATE YOU
Perhaps the single, biggest reason why people opt for Personal Training is motivation. A PT can offer this by providing their client with structure, direction, accountability, enthusiasm, inspiration and a genuine interest in their wellbeing and success.
2. EDUCATE YOU
PT’s keep themselves up to date with the latest fitness information and guidelines and have a wealth of knowledge that they are keen to pass on to and arm their clients with in order for them to eventually go it alone. Knowledge that covers many aspects of fitness such as; exercise selection, workout formats, muscles targeted, postural balance, stretching techniques and nutrition to name a few.
3. PROVIDE ACCOUNTABILITY
Booking an appointment with a PT represents a commitment and responsibility to show up for your sessions. Having a PT to report back to helps to keep you honest with yourself, accountable for your actions and much more likely to succeed in achieving your goals.
4. MAKE SURE YOU ARE EXERCISING SAFELY
A Personal Trainer will monitor your form and technique when performing an exercise to ensure that it is executed properly. Correct technique and form results in less risk of injury and a greater level of effectiveness. A PT will also be mindful of any conditions or limitations you may have and select ‘safe’ exercises accordingly.
5. REDUCE RISK OF OR PROMOTE RECOVERY FROM INJURY/CONDITIONS
Ignorance, poor technique and an unhealthy lifestyle are common precursors to both injury and the development of some health conditions. By designing a well-balanced exercise programme and imparting exercise knowledge to a client, a PT can minimize this risk. For those clients already in rehabilitation from injury a PT can aid the road to recovery by prescribing relevant exercises.
6. OFFER SUPPORT AND RESOURCE
PT’s are there to support in any way they can, whether it’s by offering a listening ear, boosting your self esteem or giving nutritional advice. They recognise that looking at all aspects of your life and improving your overall wellbeing equates to a greater probability of you attaining your goals. PT’s are also a great resource with usually a network of other specialists that may be of use to you in areas such as; alternative therapies, remedial treatments, nutrition etc..
7. KEEP IT PERSONAL
‘Personal’ Training is just that…Personal! A PT will write a programme with your input that is bespoke to you and will take into account your wants, needs, preferences, fitness level, time constraints, life commitments and any physical limitations you may have.
8. LOOK AT YOUR EATING HABITS
By asking you to keep a food dairy a PT can look at your current diet and advise accordingly on any changes that you can make to help you reach your goals as well as achieving a healthier nutritional status.
9. ENHANCE YOUR TRAINING FOR A PARTICULAR EVENT
Whether you are an athlete wanting to fine tune your training for a specific event or the average Joe Bloggs wanting to give the local 5Km run a go, a PT will design a programme offering efficient and effective progressive workouts to maximise your potential.
10. HELP PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Pregnancy, strokes, asthma, diabetes, obesity, adolescence, high blood pressure are just some of the areas that come under the umbrella of Special Populations. These areas have quite definite guidelines for exercise according to the limitations of the condition and the effects of any medication taken. A PT (with GP approval) can take the client through a safe, guided programme to maintain or improve fitness and/or increase quality of life.
